Update

The NLG is coordinating a new collaborative student project. It's the Radical Law School Manual which outlines concrete ways to challenge the law school system, from changing the law career narrative to incorporating anti-oppression trainings to fighting for more diverse faculty and curriculum. Below is a list of the ideas:

Alternative Career Narratives (e.g. Firmly Refuse)
Anti-oppression trainings at school-run 1L orientations and Disorientation events
Identifying and breaking down barriers to legal education (i.e. LSAT scores, bar passage rate pressure, cost, lack of access to childcare/part-time programs, etc.)
Community Lawyering/Law Schools as resources
Restorative Circles and trauma resources
Critical Legal Studies Faculty in areas such as gender, race, class, sexuality
Radical curriculum or radical supplements to curriculum
Changing grading practices
Curriculum diversity requirements
Challenging tuition increases
Supporting new NLG chapters
Contemplative practice in law (mindfulness and meditation)

Are you interested in this project? If you are you can work on an idea individually or it may be possible to coordinate with several other Suffolk students. Here is a rough timeline of what will be happening....

November/December 2012- Gathering materials, research, talking with other students working on your topic of interest
January- May 2013- Writing sections, compiling bibliography and resources, locating images/graphics,
      email/phone conversations with other students
June-August 2013- Copyediting and design

If would like to be involved please email me (Amy - amwillis@suffolk.edu) this week.  Obviously, please be realistic about your availability and potential
time commitment.

Also, if you have not already heard about RebLaw Conference  please check it out. RebLaw @ Yale Law
Email me if you are interested in going and we might be able to provide some funding depending on the headcount.

If you have not already please fill out the NLG survey. Next, semester we will have at least one Street Law Clinic training and we need to know what people
are interested in.   Survey

Thanks to everyone who came out to the mixer! It was a success and we will hopefully be having another one in the beginning of next semester.

Nov 14th (Wed)
The NLG - Mass Chapter will have their monthly happy hour.

This month's happy hour will be led by NLG members Iris Gomez, Illan Greenstein, and Nelson Brill who will talk about their work as immigration attorneys.

No matter if you are a student, legal worker or an attorney, NLG happy hours bring you closer to a legal topic you are interested in and make it easier for you to meet other Guild members. So please come to the November happy hour and join the fun!
